This is the Shanghai Omnijoi International Cinema made by One Plus Partnership. Its design was inspired by the railings for camera mounts used in the filming industry. This theme was cleverly illustrated through these copper tubes that roam the entire building.
As soon as you enter, you can already take a glimpse of what’s to come, almost every piece of furniture either is a pipe or somehow related to one, from the entrance counter to the bench outside a cinema room. Also, lighting takes on a big role in the aesthetic of the space as a whole, sharply illuminating areas of the intricate angles of the tubes and leaving the rest of the space in a controled dark contrast. The main goal was that “as the visitors step into the cinema, they enter a space that is detached from reality, and enjoy a complete movie viewing experience until they leave.” And that, for sure, they made it. It is a very original design that will sure take us away from reality even before the movie starts.
